Uneventful Month… Be Thankful Always

6 11 2011

The month of October has been a little something for me. Many things happened. Things that seem to magically come somewhere from novels or movies.

One morning I got a phone call from a friend. I heard cries on the other end of the line. I was so surprised. But nothing surprised me more than the words that followed my friend’s cry. “I had an abortion,” she said. I was literally shaken, unsure that I was hearing her right. But I guess talking to a friend helped her somewhat in going through the rough time.

A couple of weeks afterwards, another story from a friend shook me. He told me that out of the blue, all of a sudden he was handed over a little boy who happens to be his own son. A pair of father and son who never in their lives saw one another, now have to spend the rest of their lives under one roof. Crazy.

Towards the end of October, again I was shaken by the news that one of my uncles had to be taken to the hospital, and treated for a disease I have never yet heard before. Myasthenia Gravis. Some rare disease that somehow managed to crawl into my uncle’s body. Worse still, about a week later he had to undergo a surgery to remove the tumor of the thymus, that is supposedly the cause of the disease. But then, as if it wasn’t enough for all of us, after the surgery, my uncle had trouble breathing and now has to spend his days in the ICU. And as I am writing this post entry, we are all still praying that miracle will happen for all of us.

And all those only give me the true lesson of life. Be thankful of what we have. The gift of life. The gift of family. The gift of prayer. The gift of miracle.

My Deepest Thanks

day 27: lesson for success

30 12 2009

i had a long conversation with a friend today. it started off with a light topic of how we are liking the jobs we have. how thankful we are of the wonderful things put on our plates at work. how grateful we are of supporting people we have around us.

then the topic went one step heavier. what do we want to target ourselves with? in the short term and also in the long run? what is important in getting approvals of our colleagues, our superiors, other people? there are many smart, clever, knowledgeable people around us. but not all of them – quite a small number actually – are in the places where they really want now. what’s wrong with them?

the conversation with my friend reminded me that being smart, clever, and knowledgeable don’t really get you that far. not even half the way. you are stepping closer to your destiny when you are always willing to learn how to sharpen your instinct and logic, decide with wisdom, use your creativity and grow to be mature. the sensitivity to recognize these important virtues are the secret to getting there.

today, my friend reminded me again that knowledge is power, but character is more.

today, i want to thank you, my friend.

13 12 2009

i am so thankful for our choir. i though it was a good choir. considering that none of us is professional singer, i consider it a pretty darn great singing group!

day 18: shopping time

12 12 2009

it was day for girls. it was a day shopping! actually…. it was a day for exchanging money for  gifts for the kids. it was 3 moms, taking the busway all 30 some kilometers away, to buy little nick-nack’s for their children. it was 3 moms, carrying 6 humongous plastic bags, trying to find their ways through the crowd, until they finally made their way to all the places they wanted to go, and finally back home. it was 3 moms, with a total of 7 hours of shopping (including travel time). it was 3 moms, who had lots of fun… (didn’t we have a lot of fun, girls?)

so thank you for fun time. i truly needed it to recharge my battery.
