An Angel with No Wings

12 05 2012

I have a favorite saying: Angels don’t always have wings; those ones that don’t, are called friends.

And tonight I met one of those angels. Here’s the story.

Tonight we all went to Senayan City for dinner. It was around 7 o’clock, Saturday night. You can imagine how crowded all malls are on Saturday nights. And so was the parking place at Senayan City. I drove very very slowly looking for any empty spots – no luck. I went event slower waiting for people who were leaving – again with no luck. I went around and around the parking place, getting more and more frustrated. I was trying very hard to be patient, because I knew that sooner or later I would get a parking spot. But I guess ‘sooner’ didn’t really come so soon.

After going around for what felt like one hundred times (ok, perhaps I am exaggerating too much), I prayed that God will put an end to my misery. Then something happened. There was this one driver (he probably saw me and my car with no luck in finding a parking spot) who suddenly waived to pull me over to the side. I stopped, rolled down the window and he said, “Please just take my spot, and let me go around and try to find another parking spot.”

I couldn’t believe that I would get a chance to see an angel tonight. In a crowded parking place on a Saturday night. But this man was truly an angel God sent to watch over me.

Uneventful Month… Be Thankful Always

6 11 2011

The month of October has been a little something for me. Many things happened. Things that seem to magically come somewhere from novels or movies.

One morning I got a phone call from a friend. I heard cries on the other end of the line. I was so surprised. But nothing surprised me more than the words that followed my friend’s cry. “I had an abortion,” she said. I was literally shaken, unsure that I was hearing her right. But I guess talking to a friend helped her somewhat in going through the rough time.

A couple of weeks afterwards, another story from a friend shook me. He told me that out of the blue, all of a sudden he was handed over a little boy who happens to be his own son. A pair of father and son who never in their lives saw one another, now have to spend the rest of their lives under one roof. Crazy.

Towards the end of October, again I was shaken by the news that one of my uncles had to be taken to the hospital, and treated for a disease I have never yet heard before. Myasthenia Gravis. Some rare disease that somehow managed to crawl into my uncle’s body. Worse still, about a week later he had to undergo a surgery to remove the tumor of the thymus, that is supposedly the cause of the disease. But then, as if it wasn’t enough for all of us, after the surgery, my uncle had trouble breathing and now has to spend his days in the ICU. And as I am writing this post entry, we are all still praying that miracle will happen for all of us.

And all those only give me the true lesson of life. Be thankful of what we have. The gift of life. The gift of family. The gift of prayer. The gift of miracle.

Another Prayer Answered

Thank you, Jesus.

Yesterday I took a few hours off of work. Just enough time to go pick up my new “Asisten Rumah Tangga” and took her to my house.

Yes, I finally got myself an ART! She’s still new at this kind of job – as she said that she has never worked before, let alone being a maid – but I am okay with her taking her time learning. As long as she does want to learn. First impression, she’s honest. Let’s hope she can keep up with the rest of the family. The children, mostly. As long as she can manage my boys, she’ll be alright.

Terima kasih atas doa dan bantuannya, ya teman-teman…
